“We are the first generation that can end poverty. We are also the last generation that can slow global warming before it is too late.” – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, 2015.

The level of uncertainty about the future has increased in the light of climate change. It is the young generation that will inherit this earth. Historically the largest generation of youth, the world is currently home to 1.8 billion people between the ages of 10 to 24. These young people are now the harbingers of change. With their massive collective power and the ability to mobilise, the youth can bring about the much needed change, beginning at the individual level.

The United Nations has rightly stated that “young people are not only victims of climate change. They are also valuable contributors to climate action.” However, according to a 2011 UNDP survey, 84% of the surveyed young people agreed that they seeked more information to prevent climate change. As agents of change, the youth needs to be more informed and be trained to scale up their efforts in order to accelerate climate action. EnvironMentor aims to provide youth with necessary leadership skills and become active members of their communities, seeking to bring environmental action and change.
